let's talk about building sustainable healthy habits.

Updated: Nov 9, 2023

Hello,

P.I.LATES have created an evening for you to come and share together. We open the doors to our studio on the 17th of November, Joining us, our Special Guest Fleur Bailey - Nutritionist and must mention Pilates teacher.

We wanted to open conversations on the subject of nutrition, the best ways to nourish our bodies and optimise or energy levels in a sustainable and realistic way.

As a mum of two children and a dog i understand what it is to prioritise healthy eating, and for Isla the variety and restrictions of a gluten and dairy free diet. So we wanted to talk more ideas on long term healthy eating habits, to give us all the fuel and energy needed, not just for growth in Pilates but for the waves of life!

'No Short term gain for a long term goal.' Are the words of our eldest client age 91, a retired doctor with an abundance of energy to give.

Applying this to your relationship with food can lead to a bigger picture and a healthier you. I don't mean deny yourself that piece of cake, or swap out every coffee with a green tea, but looking at the little changes and achievable actions to keep you heading where you want to be.

So here are our top tips for sustainable healthy eating habits.

Top 5 tips.

Start small.

Instead of completely cutting out sugar which will send you in to utter crash and a grumpy old week. Swap much of your processed sugar for more natural sources. This goes for 'protein' bars and energy bars also. Often designed to make us believe we are making a better choice, swap priveases sugars for wholesome snacks - yogurt and honey, fruit or home made granola. ( we live for granola as an energy source)

How much are you drinking?

We all know we should be drinking more and it's surprisingly difficult to fit it in a day, or as ridiculous as it sounds, even have the time to fit in that extra toilet trip.

Try drinking a glass of water as part of your morning routine it will set you off to a better start. Perhaps put that extra glass in after your evening bath or shower and absolutely a huge one after your Pilates class.

Pick that routine you you already have in place, and add a glass of water to it!

Find a friend

Community being key in P,i.LATES. We know how much an idea set with a friend can keep you going.

Set a small goal or swap a healthy recipie to keep you inspired and activley cooking the right things.

You are less likely to let a friend down than you are yourself.

If it's grown in the ground it's good to go.

This is a general rule of both of ours. As a Vegetarian it is certainly easy to be an unhealthy one, thrown quick solutions of pre-packaged food can be the easiest option. Try to choose simpler foods, wholesome and 'grown form the ground' is a healthier and more sustainable way.

Isla being gluten and dairy free also agrees not to be swayed by the expensive aisles in the super market. Grateful for the variety of these products they aren't always the healthiest. Try to swap for much simpler and non processed foods.

Eat with intuition.

We Seem to have lost the art of listening to our gut because of our busy lives, tuning in to what you really need can be a task. Try to take the time to listen, not eating for the sake of it and certainly not skipping because you are busy, listen to your gut, listen to your needs.

So save some questions on the day for the lady who really knows what she is talking about Fleur Bailey. Join us for a drink and an open chat on all things nutrition, and with out question - Pilates.

Healthy Regards,

Pip & Isla
