Mat & Reformer, Should I be doing both?

Our most asked question since the studio opened.

Whilst there is nothing quite like the sense of achievement as you master a new move on the Reformer, or upping your level on your spring, there is nothing quite like feeling grounded and connected on your mat, gaining the control over your own body, and hearing the words

'just two more left' doesn't feel so excruciating anymore!

We would argue that not one is better than the other, whilst preference might be the case, the two compliment each other and are better as a pair just Like - Salt and pepper , soap and water, Pip & Isla!

Should I do Mat first?

We believe that going back to basics on a mat and finding the fundamentals of Pilates can be incredibly beneficial, although it is not vital it gives you the body awareness and can avoid the overwhelm of using a machine.

I have always used the reformer, is mat boring and will it be too easy?

Don't be fooled by the simplicity of the mat, and that the tiniest of moves can be super beneficial. you can gain deep connections and gain strength to see faster improvement on the Reformer. Experiencing one of our more intermediate and advance classes can also leave you feeling incredibly accomplished, and if anyone has ever told you Mat Pilates can't raise your heart rate or make you sweat, it is a lie!

So if you haven't already, Try Both! See how you gain more core strength, flexibility and confidence in your body on your Pilates Journey, and maybe you will be just as hooked as us.

The journey is endlessly fun and amazing, to see your body improve and move to the best of your own ability.

Then there is the 'Wunda Chair' in the Studio, but that is a whole other post!

Healthy regards

Pip and Isla.
